About Knightmare Frames Empty
PostSubject: About Knightmare Frames   About Knightmare Frames Icon_minitimeFri Jul 25, 2008 6:54 pm

Introduction
Developed by the Holy Britannia Empire, the Knightmare Frames are manned, humanoid weapons that have partially replaced the practically obsolete main battle tanks. Verbally, the name sounds like nightmare but in spelling, it refers to a knight's mare. The current fleet of Britannian Knightmare Frames uses the Royal Panzer Infantry (RPI) model series designation.

First used in actual combat during Britannia's invasion of Japan, the Knightmare Frames feature self-propelled roller skate systems christened 'Landspinners', allowing them to achieve high mobility and speeds, and gain superiority on modern battlefields. Equipped with a sophisticated 'Factsphere' open sensor camera on the head or torso to gather visual, these combat vehicles are powered by a new source called the Yggdrasil Drive. Later models now incorporate nuclei made of Coalminus-rich Sakuradite, a material now paramount in superconductivity technology.

The cockpit, which is set in the protruding 'hump back' and protected by the thick chest, can be ejected in case of emergency. Equipped with parachutes, they enable a pilot to evacuate a disabled or exploding Knightmare Frame, thereby increasing the average lifespan of a soldier on the battlefield and decreasing the number of casualties. The overseeing General(s) are notified on their battlefield over map when a pilot has ejected. Additionally, a "signal lost" indicates a frame's premature destruction or incapacitation before a successful eject.

A Knightmare Frame's main standard weapons are handheld rifles, shoulder or wrist-mounted Slash Harkens (wired rocket anchors), Stun Tonfas, lances and air burst hand grenades.

[edit] History
The history of Knightmare Frames is roughly divided in four Ages, which mark the birth of a new kind of weapon platform and its evolution into a full-fledged combat system.[1]

[edit] First Age: Infancy
The First Age saw the creation of 'emergency survival cockpits' for conventional vehicles like Main Battle Tanks and Armored Personnel Carriers. Equipped with rocket engines to fly the crew away from the wreck, the contraptions were soon equipped with artificial legs to allow greater mobility. Limited room inside the said tanks and other vehicles however restricted the number of legs to two. Although unarmed and with limited power sources, the 'walking cockpits' nevertheless sparked much interest and laid out the bases for gressorial machines.

[edit] Second Age: Turning Point
Several years later, the Britannian Empire entered the Second Age by authorizing research and development (R&D) on an innovative weapon, implementing several systems that had just been created, such as:

Multipurpose manipulators
Landspinner propulsion systems
Factsphere sensors
R&D, however, only enjoyed a short lifetime and the entire project remained at trial level, as the Landspinners suffered critical jams and brutal accelerations, causing the Knightmare Frames to tumble during test trials. The manipulators were unable to handle high-precision tasks and it wasn't until the Third and Fourth Age that acceptable results were finally achieved. R&D, however, went two separate ways, namely the application of military-based robotics projects and the use of social-oriented programs. The former was assigned to a Britannian Army Special Division, the 'Special Dispatch Guidance System Division', while the latter went in the hands of a private group, the Ashford Foundation. The said company proactively implemented technologies related to training and education, enabling the entire Knightmare Frame program to make progress fluidly.

The bipedal weapon was in the meantime nicknamed 'Knightmare' by the Army but it non-offensive equipment was referred to as 'Frame' by civilians. The union of those two terms eventually gave birth to the system's current name, 'Knightmare Frame'.

[edit] Third Age: Archetype
The Third Age quickly reaped the favorable results from the Second Age and focused on making Knightmare Frames truly combat effective platforms. As such, technology fields were prioritized, with greater focus given on mobility and ordnance.

At some time, the use of superconductor elements became paramount in Knightmare Frame R&D. One material specifically gained interest: Sakuradite. The Sakuradite-rich Coalminus was observed to bring out high output yields, effectively boosting the Knightmare Frames' performances. Before long, the mineral's value had multiplied, and it had become the core of many political issues and positions, most notably Britannia's foreign and diplomatic policies.

It was also at that time that the famous Ganymede prototype, manufactured and designed by the Ashford Foundation, made its appearance. Its test pilot gained renown and was granted knighthood, before eventually getting married to the Britannian Emperor. However, the company suffered great damage when she was assassinated and started to decline. The Ashford Foundation eventually retired from its business and its employees were disbanded. The truth on the Empress' death was never truly elucidated but rumors suggest that her downfall was caused by a political feud meant to keep the rising Ashford Foundation in check.

[edit] Fourth Age: Implementation
The Fourth Age was heavily influenced by the venerable Ganymede prototype. The once experimental vehicles definitively became weapon platforms and, from earlier test results, the RPI-11 Glasgow was rolled out, first model to be truly considered combat capable. It proved its tactical and technological superiority during the invasion of Japan in 2010 A.T.B. by crushing the local army with relative ease. Its success confirmed, the Glasgow underwent many modifications and upgrades, becoming the baseline unit for the Britannian Army. Even after it became obsolete, its frame was still used as template for later generation models such as the Sutherland, the aquatic Portman or the Gloucester. Some units are, even to this day, still used by the Knightpolice for law enforcement. Other countries and factions such as the Japanese Liberation Front even created its own variants, namely the Burai, Burai Kai and Raikou, before creating its own designs, although with highly different designs.

Knightmare Frame R&D has now reached its seventh generation, although there are few prototypes of this kind to this day. Nevertheless, upgrades and discoveries are still made every day, as now particle and wave technology are being intensively implemented in experimental weaponry.

[edit] Fifth Age: Evolution
Following the fourth generation was the fifth generation Sutherland, which kept the Glasgow's development path with a focus on improving mobility and close combat performance. The Glasgow was developed with conventional weapons such as tanks in mind, but apparently gave no consideration to fighting other Knightmare Frames. Though the Glasgow's basic technology was far from inferior, most of its success came thanks to Britannia's overwhelming power. As the success of the Glasgow lead to a worldwide boom in robotic weapon development, it became obvious that a more up-to-date approach was required.

The Sutherland's improvements to cockpit comfort and function, as well as its close combat abilities, show that the concept of robot combat was highly considered during its development. In addition to improved mobility, the refined landspinners provided the ability to pivot-turn (rotating the landspinners in opposite directions, allowing for rapid turning in place). The feedback from this technology was later returned to the Glasgow. The Second Princess Cornelia and her bodyguards make use of the Gloucester, custom machines made from the Sutherland. The remodel shows that it was not intended for anti-robot combat, but rather anti-Knightmare combat, reflecting the Chinese Federation and the EU's development of their own Knightmare Frames.

[edit] Sixth Age: Missing and Continuation
Because the Fifth Generation Sutherland and Gloucester featured similar refinements to the Knightmare Frame's technology, there was little overall innovation. As a result, the once-rapid pace of KMF development quickly slowed to a near-halt. Seeking a breakthrough, various technical trial-type machines were developed, but none produced any form of concrete results. For some time, it seemed like research into bipedal walking weapons was nothing more than wildly grasping for results. Thus, the Sixth Generation is often referred to as the "Missing Generation".

The machine that broke this stagnant period was the Seventh Generation Lancelot. Its development was handled by a key member of the Knightmare development group's applied engineering department. The OS, frame materials, and research from the First through Fifth (Sixth) Generations were all brought into line for its conception. Firstly, the frame features a differing amount of Sakuradite. Though typically used for the Yggdrasil Drive which powers KMFs, the Sakuradite is used for more than just the Coalminas core. This provides the unit with overwhelming power. Thanks to its high output, technologies such as the MVS (Maser Vibration Sword) and electromagnetic shielding could be employed. In addition to the Sakuradite dispersed throughout the frame, it is also used in the VARIS (Variable Ammunition Repulsion Impact Spitfire), with the intent of giving it the strength to survive a direct hit. This kind of rapid development completely defies the notion of general purpose and mass production units, resulting in the Lancelot being a unique machine.

At this point, there are two possible futures for KMF development. One is to take the technology introduced in the Seventh Generation and find a cheap way of introducing it into mass production machines. The other is to develop other technologies from the missing Sixth Generation to produce Seventh Generation machines other than the Lancelot. The thinking behind the technology in the Guren Type-02 and related machines could be considered "Another Seventh Generation".

A good site with Knightmare information is also located here.

Float Unit × 1 (enables flight; optional)
The Lancelot (ランスロット, Ransurotto?) is an experimental, one of a kind, Knightmare Frame developed by Lloyd Asplund and the Military Engineering Corps. This Knightmare Frame is being piloted by Suzaku Kururugi. Being the first seventh generation Knightmare Frame ever fielded, the Lancelot far exceeds the capacity of other models thanks to the heavy amount of Sakuradite scattered throughout its frame as well as in its Yggdrasil Drive, the Core Luminous. As a high-performance unit, the Lancelot features a large number of experimental and innovative devices not yet found on its predecessors. Unlike the older Knightmare Frames, the Lancelot features two retractable Factspheres affixed on its chest, two forearm-mounted beam shields, as well as two Slash Harkens on its wrists and an additional two on its hips. These Slash Harkens have experimental thrusters called Harken Booster which can improve their speed and allow them to change direction midflight. Its backborne Maser Vibration Swords (MVS) can cut through any target thanks to their high oscillation ratio, while its VARIS specialized particle rifles can adapt to any type of situation due to its adjustable projectile repulsion output. However, as it is still in development, unlike other Knightmare frames the Lancelot lacks an ejection seat. The Lancelot can also equip a backpack-like Float System, based on the same system in the Avalon and Gawain, that allows it to fly; however the power usage of the Float System is almost astronomical. The Lancelot equipped with its Float System is code-named "Lancelot Air Cavalry", and its designation code is Z-01/A.

[edit] Lancelot Conquista About Knightmare Frames 250px-Lancelot_Conquista

Float Unit × 1 (enables flight)
An upgraded Lancelot[2] set for official debut in the second season come Turn 6. The overall design is much slicker and smoother, and the floating system has become standard equipment. Its unique Core Luminous has been tuned and refined, and is able to increase its power in battle and resists the Gefjun Disturber. The Lancelot Conquista gains 3 MSV particle shields, one on each leg and one on his chest. It also has a backpack-mounted Hadron Blaster cannon, to which the VARIS is docked for firing.

The Glasgow (グラスゴー, Gurasugō?) is a fourth-generation Knightmare Frame that has actively contributed to the invasion of Japan by proving overwhelming superiority over conventional, land combat vehicles. Its hull also served as a template for Knightmare Frame research and development for later models. Now considered as outdated, the Glasgow is being quickly replaced by the newer RPI-13 Sutherland, although the civilian Knightpolice and the Japanese resistance still use modified or updated models named Burais. The Glasgow's armament array include Slash Harkens (wired hooks), tonfas and a handheld assault rifle. Kallen Stadtfeld uses a customized red Glasgow in the beginning of the series. But due to extensive use during the Shinjuku incident, it was ultimately damaged beyond repair and was replaced temporarily with a Burai.

The Knight Police (ナイトポリス, Naitoporisu?) is a Knightmare Frame made from retired Glasgows used by the Britannian Police Force for law enforcement activities as backup support for regular and special police units. As such, it is armed with a machine pistol instead of an assault rifle as well as a specially-made anti-Knightmare Frame combat knife. In addition, Knight Police frames also use a shield during situations where firearms or rogue Knightmares may be present.

The Sutherland (サザーランド, Sazārando?) is currently the standard Knightmare Frame model for the Britannian Army, the Sutherland is a fifth-generation unit heavily based on the older RPI-11 Glasgow. It boasts improved mobility through a better application of the Landspinner systems as well as enhanced cockpit life support. It carries Stun Tonfas, Slash Harkens and handheld assault rifles. Many variants exist such as the all-range REVO type, or the assault-use Pinpoint Breakthrough type[3] Also appearing are Close Combat, Hover equipment test, and Electronic Warfare types.[3] In R2, Production-model Sutherlands become able to equip a Float Unit backpack identical to that of the Lancelot Air Cavalry.

Knightmare developer Lloyd Asplund creates an experimental Sutherland unit code-named "Sutherland Air". This machine incorporates several technologies developed for the Z-01 Lancelot, including MSV particle shields and the Float system. The appearance of this unit is the same as the other Sutherland Knightmare, except that it appears in a light grey armour with light orange parts.

The Fifth-generation Gloucester (グロースター, Gurōsutā?) Knightmare Frame is actually a remodeled Sutherland focused on close combat. Featuring enhanced hand-to-hand capabilities, the Gloucester is exclusively used by Princess Cornelia's royal guards and is first seen piloted by Gilbert and Darlton during the conquest of Area 18. The Gloucester, as a close combat unit, uses a large jousting lance, and to further represent a medieval knight's appearance, is occasionally draped in a cape. Although normal Gloucester models are painted a flat, dull purple, Cornelia's aides sport a more vibrant deep-purple color scheme instead. The elite Glaston Knights' units are standard-colored except for their shoulders, which are colored blue. The cape on standard-model Gloucesters are a muted dark blue-grey, while those of Guilford, Darlton and the Glaston Knights are navy-blue.

As Princess Cornelia's personal Knightmare, the Gloucester Cornelia Unit (グロースター・コーネリア機, Gurōsutā Kōneriaki?) is a custom model featuring slight differences from the original model, namely two horn-like antenna arrays protruding from both sides of the headpiece, as well as a more ornamental waist armor . Its color is a lighter, more vibrant purple, and its cape is white. The unit was severely damaged during the Black Rebellion at the end of Season One, when Darlton, under the influence of Lelouch's Geass, threw his lance at it and impaled it, badly wounding Cornelia.

Hydro Jet Pack
Part of the fourth generation of Knightmare Frames, the RMI-13 Portman is the first (and apparently only) amphibious Knightmare to be produced.

Based on data from the RPI-11 Glasgow, much of its outward design is made with hydrodynamics first in mind. In addition to the standard slash harkens, the Portman also mounts a set of torpedo launchers in its shoulders, and also a Hydro Jet Pack mounted on its back, primarily useable while cruising through water. Though intended to operate primarily underwater, the Portman can also be used on land, though its speed and combat skills are poor in this area.

A upgraded version, the "Portman II", first appeared in Stage 7 of season 2.

The Hydro Jet Pack the Portman II has is now much faster then what the Portman has.

Knight of Rounds No.7, Suzaku Kururugi, lead the Britannian navy in an attack on the Black Knights submarine base, and sent out all of the Portman II units to intercept and surround them, but they were all destroyed in an explosion caused by Zero.

Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems (inside its feet)
Float Unit
Gefjun Disturber
Druid System
Named after another Knight of the Round Table, the Gawain is a prototype Knightmare Frame that made its first appearance in episode 19. Privately developed by Prince Schneizel El Britannia, it differs significantly from most other Knightmares, in that it is much larger (150% the height and weight of the Sutherland), features a double-seater cockpit, and is capable of flight. Despite its dual cockpit, the Gawain can still be operated by a single pilot. Though it features some new technologies, it remains unknown if the Gawain possesses certain standard Knightmare features such as Factspheres and ejection seats. In terms of offensive capability, the Gawain is probably the most powerful Knightmare ever produced during the First Black Rebellion, owing largely to its shoulder-mounted Hadron Cannons, which can emit continuous streams of destructive energy over prodigious ranges. Other than the Hadron cannons, the Gawain's only weapons are its fingertips, which are actually concealed Slash Harkens. The Gawain's lack of weapons belie its true function, as its advanced electronics and the experimental Druid System analysis complex mark it as a powerful commander unit. In episode 19, Zero and Kallen steal the Gawain in order to escape from the Kaminejima Island ruins, but discover that the Knightmare is incomplete in key areas, such as the Hadron cannons, which can only fire short bursts of energy. Despite the amount of new technology consequently lost, Schneizel dismisses the Gawain's theft, considering it to be a mere "experimental subject". However, the unit is perfected by the Black Knights' scientific mastermind, Laksharta, who uses the theory of Gefjun Disturber technology to gain control of the Hadron cannons' erratic firepower. As a side benefit, the Disturber's natural properties also give the Gawain a certain degree of stealth as it cannot be detected by radar. A few days later, it successfully experiences its maiden battle in Kyûshû, with C.C. handling the actual piloting while Zero operates the weapons and issues orders.

Developed in secret with funding from Prince Schneizel El Britannia, the Siegfried is part of the clandestine research project Code R. Originally founded by Schneizel's late brother Clovis, Code R is dedicated to the research of individuals linked to the mysterious power known only as "Geass." The massive Siegfried, classified as a "Knight Giga Fortress" rather than a Knightmare Frame, makes use of both the latest Knightmare technology as well as data from Code R. Rather than a standard cockpit, the Siegfried uses a special system wherein the pilot's nervous system is connected directly to the machine's control system, allowing for complete mental control. The cockpit is also considerably larger, allowing the pilot to move freely inside while standing.

Optional Float Unit (gives flight)
A newly-developed mass-production Knightmare Frame based on the Z-01 Lancelot in the second season of Code Geass. It is introduced a year after the "Black Rebellion", the Black Knights' attempted invasion of Tokyo, and is still in the testing stages. Its mobility is comparable to the Lancelot's, but its design still differs markedly from its predecessor. Its two Factspheres are mounted in its shoulders, and it has two hip-mounted slash harkens. Its Maser Vibration Swords are slightly different from the Lancelot's, and can be combined into a single, double-bladed weapon.

The Vincent is eventually put into mass production, and a custom unit of the Vincent is shown in the intro battling Todou's Gekka Custom Unit which is eventually confirmed to be piloted by Gilbert G.P. Guilford in episode 6. Unlike the prototype unit piloted by Rolo Lamperouge, Guilford's Vincent is shown in the season 2 opening animation equipped a Float System backpack similar in appearance to the Lancelot Air Cavalry's, also employed by the Sutherland and Gloucester.

Fortress Mode (aircraft-like transformation)
A seventh generation type, this is the first transforming aerial Knightmare Frame ever developed. It is piloted by Knight of Three, Gino Weinberg, a new character introduced in season two of the series. It is very maneuverable, able to fold out and transform in mid-air. It has two actual Shield-Harkens equipped with Harken Boosters to increase speed and maneuverability while still having cables attached to them. It also possess two pickaxe-like weapons called MVS Polearm, and is similar to the Vincent that are hidden in its wings, and can join together into a double-bladed weapon.

Float Unit
A heavy-artillery Knightmare Frame piloted by Knight of Six Anya Earlstreim, a new character introduced in season two of the series.

Unlike Suzaku's Lancelot and Gino's Tristan, this unit is much bulkier, so naturally the movement of this Knightmare is slightly slower; a tradeoff is that its armor is much sturdier than either the Lancelot's or Tristan's, to the point where it can take a direct hit from the Gekka's Katen Yaibatou does not even leave a scratch, where in normal circumstances it would have cut a Knightmare in two. Its four Hadron Cannons are mounted in the shoulder armors, which can be unfolded and merge into a quad-barrel hadron cannon, providing an increase in focus and power, such as destroying an aerial cruiser. Although lacking in close-range weapons, the Mordred's raw strength allows it to crush other Knightmares with ease.

The Burai (無頼 lit.Rascal, Burai?) is remodeled version of the Glasgow manufactured by a group located in Kyoto and used by the Black Knights and the Japan Liberation Front. It is basically the same as a Glasgow, except for the head, which resembles the face of an oni (鬼, oni ?) with the addition of fang-like cheekbones and the presence of a torso-mounted machine gun for antipersonnel warfare. Its hands have also been refurbished so that they can guard, a feature totally exclusive to the Burai model and not to the original Glasgows. Lelouch piloted a customized head unit reserved, easily recognizable by its golden horns almost resembling a samurai.

Like the Sutherland, many other variants exists including close combat and electronic warfare types.[3]

The Burai Kai (無頼改, Burai Kai?) is an optimized version of the Type-10R Burai, solely used by the General Toudou's Japanese Liberation Front as well as his group of subordinates, the Four Holy Swords. Its distinctive feature is the increase in length of its head antennas, which now extend to the back of the torso. The Burai Kai's performance in battle has proven to be equal to Britannia's Gloucester Knightmare frames. All 5 known units were lost after the battle of Narita, presumably abandoned by Todou and the Four Holy Swords during their retreat.

The Gekka (月下 lit.Under the moon, Gekka?) is a new model revealed in Episode 17 and heavily based on the Guren Type-02, but seemingly developed for mass production. Using the same motorcycle seat design, this Japanese-made Frame secretly sponsored by Kyoto 6 replaces the earlier Burai Kai and boast sixth to seventh generation technology, making them superior to Britannia's current mass production model, the Sutherland, and Gloucester.
Using the same morphology as the Guren Type-02, the Gekkas nevertheless no longer retain the protective helm and the Radiation Wave emitter-equipped, clawed hand. The appearance of this unit appears in a grey colored armor. The head unit has been replaced with a monoptic model and the cannon embedded in the left arm has been replaced by an optional, fully automatic rifle capable of bringing down Knightmare Frames as well as faster objects like missiles and airborne ordnance carriers. Its primary weapon is the Katen Yaibatou, an elongated, heated chain-sword meant to shear through Knightmares with greater ease than with conventional blades.

Kyōshirō Tōdō wanted his unit to be able to fight on equal footing with Suzaku Kururugi's Lancelot.
In the opening animation, Guilford's Vincent is shown attacking the Zangetsu. Both machines are fitted with their respective Float System pack.

A Knightmare Frame model designed by Indian engineer Laksharta, manufactured by Japan and built by a group located in Kyoto, the Guren Type-02 (紅蓮弐式, Guren Nishiki?, lit. Crimson lotus type-02)[4] features a different take on Knightmare Frame development, resulting in obvious differences in design and appearance with its Britannian counterparts. Despite the few similarities, the Guren Type-02 is on par with a seventh generation Knightmare Frame, a fact that is a source of pride for its manufacturers. Although equipped with devastating weaponry, the Guren Type-02 is however considered a defensive unit lacking ranged weapons. Shortly after its delivery to Tokyo, the only existing unit is given to the Order of the Black Knights. Zero entrusted this one-of-a-kind unit to Kallen as a replacement for the Burai unit she lost during episode 09.
The Guren Type-02 features a helm-like outgrowth surrounding the retractable head as well as a large, silver, clawed right hand that houses a radiation wave emitter in its palm. When in close combat, the Guren Type-02 is able to grab nearby enemies by extending its collapsible arm and disable them by unleashing short bursts of high-energy oscillations known as Fukushahadō (輻射波動, Fukushahadō? lit. radiation surge). This devastating weapon can overload an enemy Knightmare Frame with microwave-like energy and destroy it by literally frying its components. Due to the frying of electronic components, it can also damage the cockpit escape system, ensuring the pilot be killed or heavily injured in the process.
While not designed as such, the Fukushahado can also provide shielding functionality. In a battle against the Lancelot, this weapon was even shown to be capable of blocking a VARIS rifle bullet, completely stopping the shell in its tracks. During R2, when using its prototype version, Guren also frequently used it as some kind of energy shield, blocking a large barrage of conventional knightmare bullets and attack of a jousting lance.
The Guren's speed and strength can easily match the Lancelot. Unlike Britannian made Knightmare cockpits, the Guren Type-02 features an unconventional pilot seat, shaped in the form of a motorbike seat. Its other weapons include a short knife as well as a rapid-fire gun embedded in its left forearm.

Gefjun Net × 1 (Gefjun Net Unit × 24)
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
Float Unit (gives flight capability)
Fukushahadō-based shield
Cockpit Ejection system
After being defeated in battle by Suzaku Kururugi's Lancelot Conquista, the Guren Type-02 receives an upgrade mid-battle through a series of rocket mounted attachments, including aesthetic changes to the head as well as a Float Unit and a new "Armor-piercing Bombardment-type" Fukushahadō; aside from the original close range blast, it is also capable of producing an actual massive barrier to shield itself, firing a long-range, radiation wave out of its palm, or a spread-ranged, medium distance radiation that could immobilize units. This improved Fukushahadō gives combat options previously closed to the original Guren Type-02. Dubbed the Guren Aerial-Type (紅蓮可翔式, Guren Kashōshiki?, lit. Crimson lotus aerial-type), Kallen managed to use it to win the battle and destroy Guilford's Vincent unit. Another of the additions to Guren's weaponry is the Gefjun Net, a series of rocket-mounted drones launched from the back of the Guren that release a Gefjun Disturber surge rendering most aerial enemies weak to attack. It cannot shut down the Lancelot because of measures developed against it, but is capable of at least slowing the Lancelot down.

Weapons:
Diffusion Structure Phase Transition Cannon (拡散構造相転移砲, Diffusion Structure Phase Transition Cannon?)
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion system
MSV particle shields
Integrated Float System
Fortress Class defense
Fortress mode (transforms into a submarine)
Druid System
The Shinkirō (蜃気楼, Shinkirō? lit. Mirage) is a Knightmare constructed for Lelouch's personal use. It can transform into a submarine to move underwater, which Lelouch uses to travel to and from Japan undetected. Its armor is primarily black and gold, and it has several unusual physical features. Its feet are not flat, instead consisting of four large toes, and its head has four eyes. Its cockpit is also much wider. In addition to the standard control yolk system, the Shinkirō has keyboard-based controls similar to those used on the Gawain.[5]

The Shinkirō possesses a fortress-class defense which uses an array of MSV shields that can be projected over any part of the Knightmare. The Druid System allows the shielding system to react to incoming dangers almost instantly, giving the Shinkirō the highest defensive power of any Knightmare Frame. Its armament consists of a single, chest-mounted Diffusion Structure Phase Transition Cannon. When activated, a prism-like object is fired from the Shinkirō's chest. The Shinkirō then fires a powerful beam into the prism, which refracts the blast into dozens of devastating pinpoint lasers. It also possesses an integrated Float System for flight.

Gun-Ru About Knightmare Frames 250px-Gun-ru-1-
The Gun-RuSeries: unknown
Height: 5.00m (approximate)
Weight: unknown
Weapons:
Machine Gun x 2
Cannon x 2
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
After the undeniable success of the Holy Britannia Empire's Knightmare Frames, many nations began attempting to catch up with the superpower by developing their own Knightmares. The Chinese Federation's primary Knightmare is the Gun-Ru, a design both similar to and yet highly different from Britannian models and is a fourth generation Knightmare Frame.
Larger than its Britannian counterparts, the Gun-Ru's body is dome-shaped, with smaller legs and manipulators that fold into the body, giving it an almost frog-like appearance. The Gun-Ru's armament consists of a pair of machine guns and a pair of cannons, mounted on the shoulders of the main unit.

Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
A new-model Knightmare Frame developed by the Chinese Federation and will be piloted by Li Xingke. It was actually completed some time ago, but was left in storage because a suitable pilot could not be found.
It appeared in a purple armor with red and gold parts. It mounts a powerful "Tengaku Haoh Juuryushi Hou" Baryon Cannon in its torso, a weapon similar to the Hadron Cannon. It also has two unique Slash Harkens on the wrists that spin around vertically instead of shooting out.

[edit] Ganymede

The GanymedeSeries: unknown
Height: unknown
Weight: unknown
Weapons: none
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
Developed during what would later be called the third generation of Knightmare Frames, the Ganymede is the brainchild of the rising Ashford Foundation. Created shortly before the development of the Yggdrasil drive, the Ganymede is powered by a large external battery, limiting its range and operation time. The Ganymede is a third generation knightmare frame prototype.

In spite of this, it forms the basis of practically every Knightmare Frame constructed thereafter. In large part, this is due to the effectiveness of the basic design, along with its skilled test pilot, Marianne Lamperouge. Her incredible abilities earn her the nickname "Marianne the Flash," and eventually she becomes one of the many wives of the Emperor of Britannia. However, many years later, Marianne was assassinated while at the Aries Palace deep within imperial territory. The loss of its major benefactor and former test pilot causes the Ashford Foundation to dissolve, leading to rumors that the assassination was carried out specifically to curb the rising corporation's power. At least one Ganymede (possibly the same unit used by Marianne) is retained by the Ashford family at the academy it operates in the conquered Japan, renamed as Area 11.

This Ganymede is brought out of storage once a year for an exhibition at the school festival, where it's piloted by Marianne's son Lelouch. In a.t.b. 2017, Lelouch cedes his role as the Ganymede's annual pilot to his childhood friend, Suzaku Kururugi. At the end of season one, Nina Einstein fits the Ganymede with a Sakuradite-enhanced nuclear bomb. The bomb, however, failed to explode, allowing Cecil to take the nuclear bomb off. The eventual fate of the Ganymede is unknown. In R2, the Ganymede is presumably no longer at Ashford Academy, replaced by a MR-1 Frame. During a discussion, Millay stated that Nina was attempting to "complete" the Ganymede.

[edit] MR-1

The MR-1Series: unknown
Height: unknown
Weight: unknown
Weapons: none
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
A basic non-combat Frame that can fold itself into a more compact form. A white-and-black MR-1 was used by the Order of the Black Knights in the rescue of Suzaku Kururugi during Season 1. In R2, a purple-and-yellow model is used by Ashford Academy instead of the Ganymede. During a festival honoring Knight of Seven Suzaku Kururugi, during which a second attempt was under way to make the world's largest pizza, the MR-1, intended to be piloted by Suzaku, is hijacked by Gino Weinberg.

[edit] Bamides About Knightmare Frames 250px-Code_Geass_05_Bamides
The BamidesSeries: unknown
Height: unknown
Weight: unknown
Weapons:
Long-Range Cannon x 1
Machine Gun x 2
Missile Launcher x 2
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
This fourth generation Knightmare Frame was first used in Area 18 and is currently the only unit that are in mass-production by the Middle Eastern faction.

This unit is equipped with treaded Landspinners, allowing for improved traction over the desert sands. Its main weapons include two packs of missile launchers on the shoulders that carry up to six missiles, two side-mounted machine guns, and a long-range cannon mounted directly below the head. Their design is highly unconventional as far as Knightmare Frames go; they have no limbs to speak of, and are shaped more like elongated tanks with separate treads and an elevated "shoulder" area. It is also much larger than a Sutherland or Gloucester, requiring a large crew to operate it. Their configuration gives them fairly good speed compared to more traditional frames, but its size and lack of maneuverability make it a large, easy target.

[edit] Panzer-Hummel About Knightmare Frames 250px-CODE_GEASS_R2_-_Panzer-Hummel
A group of Panzer-HummelSeries: unknown
Height: unknown
Weight: unknown
Weapons/Installment:
Machine Gun x 2
Cannon x 2
Slash Harken × 2 (スラッシュハーケン, Surasshuhāken?)
Equipment/Installment:
Landspinner propulsion systems
A mass-production model Knightmare Frame used by member nations of the European Union, introduced in season two of the series.
The weapons this unit possesses are 2 cannons mounted on its arms, 2 machine guns and 2 slash harkens mounted on the hips one on each side. They are less mobile than Sutherlands, and are most likely incapable of hand-to-hand combat, due to their lack of proper hands; however, their cannon-arms give them superior ranged combat abilities.
This unit made its appearance in episode 3 of R2, where a division of Panzer-Hummels almost decimated Britannian Forces to prevent an amphibious landing in continental Europe, until Suzaku and his Lancelot Knightmare Frame appeared and fought the entire group.
"Panzer-Hummel" is German and means "armor bumblebee" or "tank bumblebee", depending on the translation of the word "Panzer", which may mean either.

[edit] Mark Nemo About Knightmare Frames 250px-Test5
The Mark NemoSeries: none
Height: unknown
Weight: unknown
Weapons:
Blonde Knife × 6 (remote wired rocket anchors)
Katana x 1
Equipment/Installment: none
The Mark Nemo, which makes its first appearance in the manga, Nightmare of Nunnally, is an advanced Knightmare Frame piloted by Nunnally Lamperouge. Unlike most current Knightmare Frames, the Mark Nemo does not possess a Landspinner; as a result it can move more acrobatically, allowing it to jump and run in high places.
The main weapon of the Mark Nemo are six remote wired rocket anchors known as Blonde Knife. It is similar to the Lancelot and the Gawain's Slash Harken, except that it possesses sharp blades on the end that can penetrate any Knightmare Frame and can also drill rapidly on the ground. The Blonde Knife can also move remotely either in mid-air or underground, each of them can target and destroy a Knightmare Frame while moving. The Mark Nemo is also armed with a katana capable of cutting through nearly any obstacle.
